This SW Portland home has been under bombardment this past couple weeks by there giant Oak tree. Luckily this is a tree that drops its foliage once a year with occasional egg corns & twigs. This project to clean the roof of leaf clutter simply entails bringing the blowers up, blowing the leaf debris into piles and cleaning out the gutters.
The real problem here is this moss that has accumulated over the years do to the giant Oaks constant shade and roofs shallow pitch. The age and condition of the roof poses some challenges to make it look good right away. The only option with out causing harm to the roof is treating the asphalt composition roof with a moss treatment / inhibitor, to kill the moss and keep it under control. This practice is common and highly suggested especially with older roofs.
Once the leafs are cleaned off, gutters cleaned out and moss treated, a return trip is necessary a few months later to ensure the moss is dying and not cluttering the downspouts.
